New social media rules in Pakistan focus on restricting ‘content’

With the new change, it will not be allowed to share content against the religion of Islam, the security of the country, public order and the integrity of the country, and broadcast live on social media platforms. Social media platforms will also remove content that violates these rules within 48 hours with the guidance of the PTA. Social media platforms that do not comply with these rules will pay a fine of $ 3 million.


Aminul Hak, Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications, said that with the new social media rules, Pakistani users will have full freedom of expression and these rules will play an important role in establishing relations between Pakistani users and social media organizations.
